Art or Music Teacher at Bay Park Elementary?
Did you know that many elementary schools in the SDUSD have 100% PTA funded weekly art and/or music programs?
Bay Park PTA is currently exploring options to incorporate education in the arts via a weekly music or art class for all of our students beginning with the 2015-2016 school year!
In case you are not familiar with the benefits of arts education, here are a few highlights from recent studies.
Improved Test Scores
Recent studies show that students who study the arts are more successful on standardized tests such as the SAT. They also achieve higher grades in high school.
Inventiveness
When kids are encouraged to express themselves and take risks in creating art, they develop a sense of innovation that will be important in their adult lives. “The kind of people society needs to make it move forward are thinking, inventive people who seek new ways and improvements, not people who can only follow directions,” says Kohl. “Art is a way to encourage the process and the experience of thinking and making things better!”
Fact: Americans Value Arts Education.
- 85 percent of surveyed business executives indicated that they are currently having difficulty recruiting individuals who possess creative ability with demand for creative people expected to grow as firms pursue innovation.
- Creativity/innovation rates among the top five skills sought by US employers.
